Daniella Pierson: It was definitely not something that I ever planned on. It almost became this quirk that my family laughed at, because they thought I was trying to get attention. They had no idea that it had to do with mental health. That was not something that we were talking about in our family, ever. And the first time I figured out I have OCD was when we had health class freshman year of high school. And I was like, “Oh my God, that’s what I have.” I said, “Mom, can I go see a therapist?” We definitely had the ability to go to a therapist. That’s the saddest part—so many people don’t have that ability. And my mom said, “Absolutely not.” My dad didn’t even want to hear it. I really suffered in silence as a child.
